Game 1 - Charles

General

Charles, inspired by Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution, strives to provide an immersive and enjoyable gaming experience that encourages users to actively engage with the game ecosystem. This engagement is crucial for the platform's functionality and for creating value for the DEEP tokens.

The game revolves around caring for and nurturing Charlys, which are the game characters that players initially purchase as eggs. These eggs can be hatched and developed through various stages, acquiring new character traits and attributes, increasing their value and earning bonuses.

NFTs offer Peer-to-Peer functionality, allowing users to gift Charlys directly to other players or to sell, auction, or rent them on third-party marketplaces like Opensea or Blur.

Each Charly's initial attributes are randomly assigned at the egg stage and permanently recorded on the Ethereum blockchain as metadata of a dynamic Non-Fungible Token (dNFT). A dNFT is an NFT that can change based on external conditions, primarily through changes in metadata triggered by a smart contract. This is achieved by encoding automatic changes within the NFT smart contract, which provides instructions to the underlying NFT regarding when and how its metadata should change.

In Charles, character attributes can change through intelligent smart contract implementations. When a user completes all the steps to evolve their Charlys, functions in the dNFT contract can be called via user interaction, enhancing attributes and updating the visual appearance of the NFT.

Furthermore, Charles characters can be used in all games created by DEEP 42. With three different versions to mint, each Charly comes with unique attributes such as attack, defense, strength, dexterity, speed, and rarity.

In the game, players can care for their Charlys by feeding, cleaning, and playing with them. Each interaction contributes to their evolution progress, eventually allowing them to evolve into the next stage through a blockchain transaction.

Here's how it works:

  • Clean your Charly every 12 hours.

  • Feed your Charly every 8 hours.

  • Play with your Charly anytime, but you'll only get evolution progress added every 6 hours.

Playing with your Charly also unlocks a browser-based minigame powered by Unity, featuring a Flappy Bird clone with your NFT character. Additionally, a weekly leaderboard keeps track of the top performers.

In summary, Charles aims to deliver an engaging gaming experience that fosters user interaction and adds value to the DEEP tokens. By nurturing and evolving Charlys, players can enjoy a dynamic and rewarding journey through the game's ecosystem.

Charly Lore

Gargosaur

Gargosaurs are hatched from eggs of multiple colours, and the baby form is that of a winged gargoyle. The babies are mischievous and can cause trouble before they mature into the teen form, which resembles a Pegasus, and is energetic and destructive. The grown adult, however, appears in the familiar form of a dragon, and is graceful and large. They are placid and gentle, but formidable in battle and difficult to defeat.

The mythical Gargosaurs were once believed to be the guardians of the fourth realm. The first Gargosaurs were cauldron-born, but generations later their successors now hatch from eggs laid in nests at the base of volcanoes, where the natural heat of the earth protects the offspring within.

During the cataclysm, it was believed that the Gargosaurs had become extinct, which led to the Grimbleflies becoming the dominant force throughout the Northern Isles. However, a recent discovery of the last batch of dormant eggs has resulted in a resurgence of the Gargosaurs, and now an epic war between the Gargosaurs and the Grimbleflies is gaining motion.

Grimblefly

Grimbleflies are distant descendants of butterflies, but apart from sharing some visual similarities, that is where the likeness ends. These giant winged creatures have an appetite for destruction, and have little empathy of care for anyone or anything. Their cool demeanour grows with them from baby to teen to adult, until they appear devilish and cruel. The really peculiar thing about Grimbleflies is how they are born. Their eggs don’t look like eggs, but appear more like matchboxes which begs the question – who makes the matchboxes?

Grimbleflies are the dominant creature across the Northern Isles, and their thousand-year reign has been one of devastation. Their only purpose in life is to destroy and consume at the expense of all else. Nobody know where they came from, or how they are born, only that their matchbox-like eggs appear from nowhere, as if created by some evil overlord. The Grimbleflies are devilish creatures, but they weren’t always the dominant beasts on the Northern Isles. It is rumoured that a thousand years ago the land was protected by fearless dragon-like protectors known as Gargosaurs. The Gargosaurs were thought to have been wiped out in the mysterious cataclysm, leaving the Grimbleflies to wreak havoc across the Isles. But now there are stories spreading that the Gargosaurs might be back, and that a war is coming to regain their rule over these sacred lands.

Cosmic Tinch

Cosmic Tinches are strange, space dwelling creatures of two heads, one which hangs down beneath the other, swinging in a pendulous motion. They are born not from eggs, but from the centre of stars, and they float through the galaxy, seemingly aimlessly, but with a clear direction and intention.

Little is known about the Cosmic Tinch. Few have seen them. Fewer even believe in them. They are considered to be gods, bred in the furnace-like hearts of stars to travel the galaxy ensuring that the spiritual balance of all the elements is maintained and that, should anything upset that balance, corrections are made, sometimes with dramatic consequences.

Cosmic Tinches are quiet and wise, and their pendulous motion is a clock by which the galaxy sets itself. Sunrise and sunset, high and low tides, the turning of the planets and the cycles of life, all moving in harmony with the hypnotic rhythm of the Cosmic Tinches.

Nobody knows how many there are, or what exactly they do, but all that is know is that they are the wise overseers of everyone and everything, and that the threads of existence are held in their care. Life and death reside with the Cosmic Tinches, and though gentle, silent, and wise, it is their judgement which decides the fate of all across the galaxy.
